ITA stands for The Interior
Taxpayers' Association. Our goal is to ensure the most cost effective government possible,
and to make it affordable for everyone to live here, with enough discretionary income to
enjoy it as well.
We can be explained best perhaps,
by addressing what we are
NOT:
1. WE ARE NOT ANTI-TAX
We do object to paying more taxes to subsidize waste, extravagance, and inefficiency
in government.
2. WE ARE NOT ANTI-UNION
Many of our members belong to unions. We are against union leadership that would
sacrifice their members with low seniority to keep wages high for their more senior
members.
3. WE ARE NOT GUESSING
All our statements are backed up and documented in writing - from public documents,
vouchers, receipts, memos from the City Manager, etc. Anyone is welcome to check our facts
by calling 456-8031.
4. WE ARE NOT A NARROW SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
We represent all taxpayers of the Fairbanks North Star Borough, even those who
oppose us. We are YOUR eyes and ears. We are a watchdog for you, the People. The ITA
exists only as long as you are interested in being kept informed about your government; we
can only fight for you to the extent that you support us with your money, your presence,
and most important, your vote.
5. WE ARE NOT NEGATIVE
We have sometimes been called
"negative" because we've been forced to fight negative things like waste and
corruption in our local government. We think it can only be positive when the result is
the kind of rise in public awareness that has occurred in recent years, evidenced in part
by increased voter turnout in elections. We think the public's realization that they CAN
make a difference is a very positive thing. If you would like to be a part of a positive
approach to helping yourself and your community, please feel free to join us.
Want to make a difference? Start your homework early:
Attend our Candidate's Forum in the fall.
If you live in the Interior of Alaska, search this web site for
information on the candidates we endorse and the issues we support ( or oppose).
Our newsletter can help you
monitor those presently in office. Call 456-8031 for a sample copy.
Your membership fees and donations help pay our attorney's fees and
advertising, and allow us to publish our candidate endorsements, as well as inform the
public about "the rest of the story" on ballot issues.
A
membership
blank can be printed
from our web page and is available in many issues of our newsletter. The same blank can be
used if you want to donate or to receive our newsletter to keep up-to-date on our progress
and find out what is happening in the city and borough, as it affects you, the taxpayer.
Candidate endorsements on
this Web Site are not authorized, paid for, nor approved by any candidate. ITA,
as a non-profit organization, does not give money to candidates. ITA is solely
responsible for the content of everything appearing on these pages unless
otherwise noted. We believe in the truth and are proud of our research. We stand
ready to back up anything we say here, with the originating documents if
necessary. However, we will not be responsible for inaccuracies found in other's
documentation.
